Testimonial
A spectacular, exciting voyage from Sydney to Melbourne, covering over 580nm in 9 days. Tremendous crew; Gordon (Skipper - >20K nm oceanic sailing experience), Ed, Jen (coincidentally a chef), Nick and me. We stopped at Jervis Bay for 48 hours to sit out unfavorable weather, then sailed 36hrs down to Lakes Entrance for a night followed by a 40hr push to Port Phillip Bay and homeport, Melbourne. A combination of favorable winds (up to 30kt gusts), a Pacific swell, provided some thrilling sailing experiences, including “goose winging” and surfing waves making 10kts+ and putting in reefs with all hands-on deck at midnight. It was a wildlife extravaganza including countless pods of dolphins playing in our bow wave, whales breaching, seals sunbathing on the surface, curious penguin popping up, diving gannets and wave skimming petrels. An unforgettable experience for us all and tremendous fun. Thanks to my wonderful shipmates and of course the good ship Caprice.

You will be welcomed on day 1 and participate in provisioning, departure preparation and passage planning.
The target for each passage leg is to day sail, with night sailing included on some days and the opportunity to do some day sailing at the destination.
Our passage planning will be based on only sailing when the forecast shows headwinds below 18 Kts and all wind under 30 Kts.
The skipper is an RYA Offshore Skipper and Cruising Instructor with Commercial endorsement, so bring your notepads and log books and you can make the most of this experience. You will get lots of time on the wheel and you’ll get to take your turn on night watch with a crew mate.
You will also have some good down time, so bring a book or two, load up your tablet with your favorite music or movies to share (or to just plug into at night). We have plenty of power on board so you can stay fully charged. We will largely be in range of shore based mobile coverage so you’ll be able to make calls and access the internet, most of the time.
The shared costs are $2000 per person
This includes the professional skipper, all on board food, fuel and marina fees.
All off-boat expenses will be your own responsibility (meals ashore, flights, ground transport etc.)
It is recommended that participants should be a member of Australian Sailing, which provides some Personal Accident Insurance (PAI).
If you are not a member of Australian Sailing then you will need to have your own PAI. We recommend you have private health insurance.
